Homeschooled Boy Overcomes Barriers To ReadingTable of Contents | Davis Dyslexia Correction Methods | Experiences With Davis Methods
My home-educated son was having difficulty reading and we had gone through five different phonics-based from Spalding Phonics to The Phonics game with little success.
It was obvious this boy was gifted and creative beyond my other children, but where reading came into the picture he appeared to be a dim bulb.
I told him we would just keep going through reading programs until we found the one that worked.
Last April I saw an article about dyslexia, and I realized that this boy fit into 80 per cent of the descriptions. After I read about the Davis Dyslexia method on the internet, I attended a workshop in late July.
Less than a week after returning from that workshop and applying Davis Dyslexia Correction Techniques, the miracle of reading was a part of my son's life. He knows how to correct his dyslexia for reading and writing or other communications for which Dyslexia was a stumbling block, but he doesn't "overcome" his dyslexia such that it has killed his exceptional perceptions that help him with three-dimensional applications and other applications where his dyslexia made him achieve beyond "everyone else."
He now asks various family members if he can read to them, whereas a month ago he fled the room were reading to be mentioned.
